“Great meeting this afternoon at the @WhiteHouse with @Jack from @Twitter. Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform, and the world of social media in general,” Trump tweeted, along with a photo taken inside the Oval Office.
“Look forward to keeping an open dialogue!”
Among the topics broached was “Twitter’s commitment to protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis,” a company spokesperson said.
“Jack had a constructive meeting with the President of the United States today at the president’s invitation.”
The meeting comes after Trump, in a series of early morning tweets, repeated his gripes that Twitter was “playing political games” and discriminating against him and the GOP.
In an internal Twitter email thread, Dorsey wrote that he believes “conversation, not silence, bridges gaps and drives towards solutions,” Motherboard reported.
“I have met with every world leader who has extended an invitation to me, and I believe the discussions have been productive, and the outcomes meaningful,” he wrote.
The Twitter boss said he anticipated some of his staff wouldn’t be happy about the meeting but wrote: “In the end, I believe it’s important to meet heads of state in order to listen, share our principles and our ideas.”
The sit-down was expected to last 30 minutes, according to emails cited by the Web site.
